Full Bio
As a kid, my friends and I loved to explore the woods behind our neighborhood. This was the 90s, and our parents were okay with us exploring outside as long as we were home for dinner.
In the middle of those woods was an abandoned house. Occasionally, we’d be brave enough to go inside. Trash covered the floor. Creepy graffiti messages were all over the walls. And one time, almost as soon as we went in, we heard a noise from the basement. We weren’t that brave (or dumb). We ran away as fast as we could.
This was during the same time in my life when I knew I wanted to be an author. And even though I started by writing Pokemon fan fiction and stories about dinosaurs, there was always at least a little bit of the paranormal in what I wrote.
That dream to become an author didn’t go away, even as I went on other life adventures like serving a 2-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, doing deliveries and cleanup for a port-a-potty company, and playing and singing in an alternative/folk band and a satirical hip hop group.
Living life and keeping that dream of authorship alive eventually led me to writing middle grade sci-fi and horror. Even though my friends and I ran away from that abandoned house years ago, today, if there’s something that goes bump in the night, I want to be the one to tell its story — and possibly throw in some of my own childhood misadventures, too.
I also draw inspiration from my favorites like the Universal Classic Monster movies, B-movies from the 1950s and 60s, Stranger Things, and more to write stories that combine adventure and the paranormal as kids face their fears and overcome the odds to save the day.
